After the crushing news of last year's cancellation, the Strawberry Music Festival, brought to you by Modern Sky, is back in Beijing - and the official lineup has finally surfaced.
The stacked three-day music event, kicking off April 29 at Yuyang Ski Resort, features an impressive mix of both local and overseas acts on seven different stages. Headlining the gig are famed UK sub-pop rockers alt-J. The indie band are known for their ethereal, masterfully layered sound (and for subtly mumbling provocative lyrics about brooms and stuff).
Liars (US)
Habibi (US)
Solo-turned group Liars are also no strangers to experimentation with their genre-bending fusion of ambient electro and post-punk. Other highlights include Brooklyn natives Habibi bringing their 60s inspired surf-rock, gritty garage-rock group The Mystery Lights and Japanese sublime dream-pop group The fin.
The fin. (Japan)
China's own acts set to perform include Wuhan-based emo indie band Chinese Football, lively Beijing rockers Casino Demon and loads more local underground talent. For music buffs wanting to discover some smaller, up-and-coming musicians (and escape the chaos of the Grammy Festival, a pop music extravaganza set to take place on April 30), this is the place to be.
Chinese Football (China)
Tickets are on sale now and range from RMB320 for a basic single-day pass to RMB580 for those craving that swanky VIP experience.
